Immokalee footballers come away with big district win

In Immokalee and Golden Gate’s Class 3A regional semifinal on Friday night, Indians midfielder Eduardo Soto twice found himself in the right place at the right time.

Conversely, at the exact moments fate was smiling on Soto, Titans goalkeeper Mauricio Ramos-Mancera twice found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Those two instances led to two Soto goals and the decisive difference as Immokalee triumphed 2-1 and will play at Tampa-Jesuit on Tuesday in the regional finals.

It is the first time since 2006 that the Indians have made it so deep into the postseason.

The victory was the second straight road win for the Indians (12-3-5), who defeated defending 3A state champion Cape Coral on Tuesday night. The win also served as a measure of revenge for the Indians, who lost 2-0 last Friday to Golden Gate in the Class 3A-District 11 championship match on the same field.
