Immokalee buries Golden Gate for district title
The Immokalee Indians showed that they are the class of Collier County football, dismantling Golden Gate 68-13 on Friday night and clinching the Class 5A-District 12 championship in the process. The Indians turned in one of their most dominant performances of the season, which is saying a lot considering the Indians have beaten seven of their 10 opponents this season by at least 35 points.
With the win, the Indians clinch home-field advantage for their first-round matchup against Lehigh on Nov. 18. The Titans will travel to Cape Coral for their first-ever playoff game, also on Nov. 18.
From the Indians’ first offensive play — a 47-yard pass from Tshumbi Johnson to Jummy Victorin — it was apparent that Golden Gate was in for a long night.
The Indians scored on all six of their first-half possessions, jumping out to a 49-6 lead at the half.
