The plan to redesign Immokalee's central business district has been recognized for its foresight and vision by Florida's top urban planners. 

The Florida Planning & Zoning Association will give it's top award Friday in Sarasota to the Immokalee Community Redevelopment Agency's (CRA) Public Realm Plan and Central Business District Form-Based Design Guidelines. 

The prestigious award is the first recognition of Immokalee's ambition plan to redesign the community, enhance its quality of life, diversify its economy and reflect its true nature and character as "Florida in the 21st Century."

The Immokalee CRA Public Realm Plan...are the products of intense community planning and visioning efforts that, from the outset, were intended to acknowledge and celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of Immokalee's residents," said Immokalee CRA Director Penny Phillippi.

By following the design and plan, Immokalee's downtown will be transformed into a fiesta of business - shops & restaurants - colorfully and architecturally pleasing to the eye and friendly to pedestrian and bicycle traffic with public plazas at both ends of Main Street and a shopping district extending to the Seminole Immokalee Casino and future hotel/entertainment complex. 

The plan was developed in cooperation with Land Design Innovations, Inc., of Orlando and RWA consulting engineers led by Naples planner Bob Mulhere.
